POONCH, June 10: Krishna Ghati Brigade celebrated the 50th anniversary of India’s historic victory over Pakistan in 1971 war with veterans of 1971 war, ex-servicemen and Veer Naris. The Swarnim Vijay Mashal was received at Krishna Ghati Top War Memorial in Poonch today.
Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, GOC 16 Corps along with Maj Gen Rajeev Puri, GOC 25 Inf Div and 1971 war veterans welcomed the Swarnim Vijay Mashal. The gallant soldiers who made supreme sacrifice for the nation were paid homage by laying a wreath at the war memorial.
Trees were also planted to commemorate this occasion. Tribute was also paid to the bullet ridden uniform of Late Sub Seva Singh from 11 JAK LI who laid his life for defence to highlight of Poonch during 1971 war.
A presentation was held to highlight the saga of valour and sacrifice in the gory Battle of Nangi Tekri fought during 1971 war, wherein the valiant soldiers of 21 PUNJAB and 9 RAJ RIF captured Nangi Tekri and hoisted Indian flag on Pakistani soil, was re-lived. Those veterans and ESMs who could not join the celebration due to COVID pandemic, shared their passionate feelings through recorded video messages.
Lt Gen Suchindra Kumar felicitated war veterans, ESMs, Veer Naris and widows and thanked them for their invaluable contribution. The entire ceremony showcased the Indian Army’s victory on Pakistan in the 1971 war in Poonch Sector and assured that the fallen comrades and their Next of Kin will always be looked after.
