KARGIL, Oct 17: The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) held a joint meeting today with wide participation from various stakeholders across Kargil, including Acting CEC LAHDC Kargil Kacho Mohammad Feroz, and representatives from the Kargil Bar Association, Merchant Association, Contractors Association, Transport Associations, and the Automobile Association, among others.
During the meeting, participants unanimously expressed solidarity with the KDA’s peaceful movement demanding full Statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Addressing the gathering, KDA Co-Chairman Asgar Ali Karbalai briefed members about the prevailing situation in Leh, condemning what he described as the Government’s “inappropriate and insensitive attitude” towards the people’s genuine concerns.
In response, the KDA announced that a silent and peaceful protest march will be held on Saturday, October 18, beginning from Changrah Bazar and proceeding through the main market to Zainabia Chowk, culminating at Lal Chowk, Kargil. Similar marches will also be taken out at all the sub-divisions and block headquarters across the district.
Later in the evening, the entire Ladakh region will observe a symbolic blackout, expressing solidarity with the victims of the recent Leh incident and sending a strong message that the Union Territory administration has failed to address Ladakh’s aspirations. The KDA reiterated that it is now imperative to declare Ladakh a full-fledged state with Sixth Schedule safeguards.
The meeting also resolved that any future dialogue with the Government will depend on three key conditions— unconditional release of Sonam Wangchuk and all other detainees, withdrawal of all charges against the detainees and adequate compensation for those killed and injured during the recent incidents.
