KD for installation of CCTV cameras to avoid crimes

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU , Nov 24: Expres-sing serious concern over the rising incidents of crime and day-to-day accidents in the State,  president Kranti Dal, Pritam Sharma today asked the Government to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in all the high-crime areas to prevent such thefts and crimes.
Talking to reporters here, today, Pritam Sharma asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also hold the portfolio of Home Minister, to set up a CCTV surveillance system integrated with data analysis, command and control system in order to strengthen the crime control system in the State.
The presence of cameras will prove effective in reducing crime, he added.
Hitting out Police Department for its failure to trace out the truck which killed a law student in accident near Tawi Bridge, Pritam Sharma asked Traffic Police to install CCTV in all major traffic junctions in the entire State so that drivers involved hit and run accidents can be  traced out timely.
He also raised serious concern over the defunct CCTV cameras, which are of no use as the repair works were not taken up on time.
“Not only traffic but police should benefit from CCTVs as crimes are increasing in town. For the safety of its citizens Government must undertake repairs and maintenance work of CCTV cameras,” he said.
He said CCTV would help their safe movement on the roads, provide safety for pedestrians and control the anti-social and traffic violating offenders and maintain a vigil on students’ activities.
