JAMMU, July 27: Speaker J&K Assembly and MLA, Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta visited the sites of flood affected areas and took stock of the damages caused by the incessant rains last night.
He visited Nanak Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Channi Rama, Pamposh Colony, Bilal Colony, Qasim Nagar, Gorkha Nagar, Chatta-Sunjwan Road.
He was accompanied by Joint Commissioner, JMC, R S Jamwal; SDM, Jammu South, Sonu Pargal; SP, South, Shahzad Salaria; SDPO, East, Chandan Kohli; X-En, PMGSY, Janak Raj Bhagat; CTO, JMC, Talat Mehmood; along with officers of I&FC, PWD(R&B), UEED and ERA.
The Speaker directed the JMC officers to immediately remove the slab over the nallah and dismantle the small pully near Chandi Mata Mandir, Nanak Nagar which got choked and caused damage in the area.
The water overflowed from Nallahs at few places at Trikuta Nagar, he visted the localities and interacted with the locals and assured for every possible help to them and also directed the Economic Reconstruction Agency for restoration of the protection wall of the Nallah and placing crates for preventing the water to breach the bunds in the future.
He also interacted with the families of the flood victims and directed the revenue officers to access the damages suffered by every family and furnish the details in the shortest possible time so that the process of compensating them can be initiated at the earliest.
The roads links of the Bilal Colony, Pamposh Colony and the link between Chatta and sunjwan have been severely damaged due to these rains.
He immediately directed the District Development Commissioner Jammu to take up the work for temporary restoration of these road links and the one between Chatta & Sunjwan in particular in order to provide road connectivity in times of emergency.
Further ensuring the people, he said that the project for underground Nallahs of these colonies have already been prepared by the UEED under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation and the same will be executed in a time bound manner giving a life time relief to the people of these colonies.
