JAMMU, Apr 25: A special Passport Mela was organized today in the office of Regional Passport Officer, Jammu on the completion of three years of operationalization of the Passport Seva Kendra in Jammu.
The Passport Mela was inaugurated by Kavinder Gupta, Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly, in presence of Rajinder Kumar Gupta, Regional Passport Officer, Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, the Kavinder Gupta appreciated the use of e-governance and lauded the efforts of Passport Office, Jammu towards providing citizen centric services.
A huge number of passport aspirants thronged the office of Regional Passport Officer (RPO) right from the early morning. Such was the extent of rush that the shopkeepers outside the premises also started inquiring. Senior citizens and minors were given priority during the mela.
It is pertinent to mention here that as a part of Mission Mode Project of Government of India, Passport Seva Project of the CPV Division, MEA has already been awarded a gold award for outstanding performance in citizen centric services.
During the mela, a huge number of files were accepted and many of PCC applicants were issued PCCs over the counter.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajinder Kumar Gupta said that it was the beginning of a series of initiatives to carry the passport services to the door-step of citizens with the use of e-governance and new technologies.
He also added that in near future, Passport Office, Jammu is contemplating to hold Passport Seva Camps, especially in rural districts, such as Rajouri and Udhampur.
