JAMMU, May 20: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, in presence of Member Parliament Jugal Kishore and MLC Vikram Randhawa, today inaugurated the newly constructed lanes and drains at Ward 56 of Gandhi Nagar.
The Speaker said that other ongoing developmental projects in the area will ensure better amenities to the people once completed and appealed for active public partaking in strengthening the initiatives of the Government.
He said that concerned executing agencies have been directed to work in tandem and ensure that projects are completed within the stipulated timeframes with strict adherence to quality norms.
On the occasion, MP Jugal Kishore sanctioned Rs 5 lakh from the CDF for construction of a cultural stage at Ram Leela Ground.
Later, Speaker visited Satwari, Nai Basti, Digana, Gangyal, Channi Himmat, Deeli, Uttam Nagar, Dashmesh Nagar, Saink Colony, Sanjay Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Trikuta Nagar and adjoining localities to review the plan and progress in blacktopping works being undertaken by PWD (R&B) Department.
The Speaker was informed that blacktopping and macadamization in first phase amounting to Rs. 25 crore would start soon and that the department has already started the preparatory works in this regard.
While addressing the gathering, the Speaker said that Government has initiated several measures to upgrade existing road infrastructure with special focus on rural and far-off pockets. He asked the executing agencies to speed up the pace of works so that the same are completed in a time bound manner. He cautioned the officers that any laxity in this regard would not be tolerated and stern action would be initiated against non performers.
Executive Engineer PWD, Junior Engineers besides other concerned officers also accompanied the Speaker.
