Kathua witnessed unprecedented development in BJP Govt: Col Mahan

KATHUA, Feb 3: The class of development Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed in these seven years of BJP Government was never witnessed before. This was stated by Col (retd) Mahan Singh, DDC Chairman Kathua in a statement issued here, today.
The DDC Chairman said that the J&K Union Territory is moving towards new heights of development under Modi regime. Besides, freeing the J&K from the developmental hurdle, BJP has brought J&K on the track of development and growth. “Enormous welfare schemes have been launched by the Central Government and the UT administration for the overall good of people,” he added.
Col Mahan Singh expressed gratitude to Dr Jitendra Singh, MP Kathua-Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency and Union Minister for taking personal interest in the development of District Kathua, especially in hill region. He particularly complimented Dr Jitendra Singh for playing constructive role in granting much awaited wild life clearance for Basantpur-Thein Section of Lakhanpur to Basohli road. With the proposed widening and improvement of this nine KM long stretch, with a width of 10 M at a cost of Rs 22 crore, which will reduce traveling time of the commuters traveling from Kathua to Basohli, Billawar, Bani etc.
The DDC Chairman said that besides recently accounted two National Highways between Kathua-Basohli-Doda and Dayalachak-Billawar-Basohli, 21 new NABARD roads have been sanctioned for the district. He said in addition to it more than about two dozen PMGSY roads are under construction, 15 new PMGSY roads have been approved under languishing scheme to be soon taken up by PMGSY Department in rural and remote areas.
Col Mahan Singh gave all credit to Dr Jitendra Singh for sanctioning national level Water Sport Academy at Basohli, the construction of its complex at the cost of more than Rs 3 crore is in progress at the outskirts of Basohli. He said that at least half dozen wayside amenities, tourism huts and view points are at present under construction along Kathua-Basohli-Bani axis and Dayalachak-Billawar- Machhedi axis which will promote tourist infrastructure in the region.
He said that a Handicraft Centre and a Handloom Centre has recently been sanctioned with kind intervention of Dr Jitendra Singh for Basohli region each at a cost of Rs 2 Crore which will be useful for promoting traditional paintings and Pashmina work of Basohli. He added that special funds have been made available in recently introduced budget for border areas under vibrant village promotion scheme in the J&K UT.
