Kathua police destroys 180 Opium plants

KATHUA; Apr 16: J&K police Kathua under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua has successfully destroyed “Opium” cultivation and recovered 180 Opium (Poppy) plants weighing approximately 21.680 kg in Pallan area of PS Billawar.
Police said on Wednesday, on receipt of reliable information regarding illegal cultivation of Opium (Poppy) plants at Pallan area of Billawar, a police team of PS Billawar led by SHO, PS Billawar under the supervision of SDPO Billawar swung into action.
During the operation, one person namely Khushi Mohd, son of Ghulam Rasool of Pallan, tehsil Billawar, district Kathua was found to have illegally cultivated 180 Opium (Poppy) plants weighing approximately 21.680 Kgs in his agricultural land. The said crop was seized on the spot in the presence of EMIC Bhaddu as per procedure. In this regard, FIR No. 70/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act stands registered at PS Billawar and investigation has been taken up.
Kathua police is committed to upholding the law and preventing such illegal activities that affect the safety and security of the community. “Opium cultivation” and its illegal trade are serious offenses, and the J&K Police Kathua will take strict action against the offenders.
SSP Kathua urged the public to come forward with any information about such illegal activities and to cooperate with the police department to maintain peace and harmony in the community.
