Srinagar, Nov 29: With the district administration failing to address the connectivity issues in far-off areas of Ganderbal, two specific areas that connect dozens of villages are suffering the most.

These areas include Kathi and Machkhene in Wangath, where people endure hardship due to the absence of a proper bridge, and they are left to use a makeshift bridge made of wood.
“The bridges currently in place are in bad shape, prone to accidents. In a way, I can say that they are not fit for use. Both these bridges connect several areas, but the absence of proper structures is making the commute difficult,” said a local resident Murtaza.
The Kathi bridge connects Kanchnambal, Lamban, Baniaram, Baba Nagri, and Wangath. However, poor connectivity creates hurdles, making it difficult for people to even access basic healthcare facilities.
“There is a hospital in Baba Nagri, and an annual Urs takes place there, attended by lakhs of people, making it difficult for them to reach the shrine. We recently had an accident in which a child died,” stated local residents.
In Wangath, residents mentioned the presence of a market and a bank, but accessing them has become difficult for people due to poor connectivity.
“There are nearly 12 villages on both sides of these bridges, where thousands of people live. However, the authorities have not taken any note of our demand to have proper bridges so far,” the residents added.
DDC Kangan-B Mian Amjad, while emphasizing the importance of these bridges, mentioned that he has already written about it to the Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, and the officials of the concerned departments, but to no avail.
“I have given the letters to the DC and the concerned department, but nothing has been done so far in this regard. Kathi and Machkhene bridges are crucial for better connectivity and improved access for people,” he said.
