Kashmiri play ‘Gaad Bateh’ staged in drama fest

JAMMU, Jan 13: Kashmiri play Gaad Bateh, was performed as third production of the ongoing Annual Drama festival being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, at auditorium of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Written by Rakesh Roshan Bhat and directed by Rohit Bhat, and presented by Natya Karmi, the play was an attempt to reiterate the tradition in light of unfortunate migration of Kahsmiri Pandits from the Valley and the fear that new generation which are being brought up as uprooted community may forget the cultural practices that constitute their identity.
The plot of play revolves around a family comprising of a grandfather, father and grandson and which is engaged in celebrations of, festival Gaad Bateh. The appearance of the Greh Devta and his dialogue with grandfather and other ensuing situations through laced in humor, transported the audience back to the memory lane, made them relive those experiences only to emphasize the significance of festivals like Yaksha Amavasya and the Herath for Kashmiri Pandit community’s identity.
Rakesh Tikoo as grandfather, Rahul Kilam as Bub Ji, Daizy Bazaz as Veena ji, gave good performances.   Other members of the cast included Nihal Pandita, Rohit Bhat, Vinod Bhushan, Sajni Tukra, Vishal Hanjura. Sunny Mujoo was the assistant director, music by Balbir Kumar, make-up by Sunny Mujoo and lights by Ajay Goswami.
Tomorrow   Hindustanim play Bicchoo would be presented by Natshala  under direction of Tapeshwar Dutta.
