Kashmiri migrants’ delegation calls on CEO

JAMMU, Feb 6: A deputation of Kashmiri  migrants led by Er Ramesh  Chander  Mahajan  called  on  the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), here, today, and apprised him of the problems being faced by  displaced Hindus from Kashmir Valley. The deputation submitted a memorandum to him in this regard.
It said that in the updated records of voter lists of the Kashmiri migrant families, names of some  members are missing, besides, the EPIC/ Voter Identity Cards are not issued till date due to which bonafide voters are deprived of their Constitutional right.
It said the introduction of M Form system has been creating hurdles as such discouraging the migrants voters from exercising their franchise, all those M Form may be abolished, so that displaced people vote without any unnecessary formalities during elections.
The voters list details be released and displayed before the coming elections. So that the maximum participation of all migrants community be ensured in the elections to elect their representatives.
It further demanded that migrants be allowed to caste their vote as per the updating old Kashmir valley records as well as new updated records by ensuring that all members of family are in  the voter lists. Maximum number of enrolment/ inclusion of eligible voter should be linked with the families details/ data of Relief Department’s as well as Department of Unique Identification Authority of India, Department of Census Organization, National Population Register of India, and also connected with Centre Department of Election Commissioner of India or incorporate names of all the displaced  persons in Municipal Corporation voter list according  to their municipal wards, Panchayats and  block level bodies.
Further awareness  campaign  be started for  enrolment/ inclusion  and registration of eligible voters, scrutiny  of Assembly segments, district wise and area wise localities and polling station wise should be displayed in  migrants camps  and non  camps all over the country .
The delegation also demanded that Kashmiri migrants be declared as internally displaced people and given political reservation and  four  seats  be reserved in  State Legislature Assembly, three in Legislative Council and one each in Lok  Sabha and Rajya  Sabha. Besides it  demanded  over all empowerment of the community.
