SRINAGAR, July 27: Kashmiri engineering students have launched a website plasmakashmir.com for plasma donation amid COVID-19 pandemic.
With increasing number of cases on daily basis and more patients needing plasma, the purpose of the website is to connect the plasma donors with the COVID-19 patients in Jammu and Kashmir.
The format of the website was developed by taking consultation and advices primarily from medical professionals and is aided by volunteers from various backgrounds.
“The plasma donors, who have recovered from COVID-19 need to register themselves on the website by filling up a registration form under icon ‘Register as Donor’. Likewise, the COVID-19 patients who need plasma can also register on the website by filling up a form under icon Register as Patient,” said Hanan Raina, one of the website developers.
Syed Fahad, the programmer of the website said, “The site connects plasma donors to COVID-19 patients. If you have successfully recovered from COVID-19, you can donate your plasma and save the lives of those suffering from this deadly virus. If you currently are COVID-19 positive, we can help you locate plasma donors easily”.
“Your information will be kept completely confidential and will be shared with only those in need. You can remove your name anytime you want from our website database” said Immad Mir, the security advisor of the website.
The website developers have sought support from people especially the medical fraternity working in the hospitals to carry forward this noble initiative and help in saving lives amid COVID-19 pandemic.
Director JKIFTS, Dr Tasaduk Hussain Itoo said that the initiative is one of its kind, humanitarian and would surely prove beneficial in saving lives during current COVID-19 crisis if given support. Besides, he said that engineers have a great role to play in containing the pandemic through coming up with such noble innovative initiatives.
