Making a mockery of digitization for the convenience of both hundreds of thousands of students of the Kashmir University as well as pertaining to employees of the University administration, the authorities owe a clarification as to how massive ”data breach” struck it which is reported to be pertaining to over a million of students as also hundreds of employees. Cannot the fears be nursed that the data could be open up for sale/ misuse / tampering or whatever?.
That hackers can gain access to such a massive data pertaining to the University thus registration number of students , e-mail., password , details of students’ migration to other Varsities etc could be in utter jeopardy . The hackers being emboldened to this extent that they have tagged prices for sale as reported to be ”available” at $250 or Rs.15000 . It is a matter of concern and only experts in the advanced IT can come out with a proper and permanent solution but in the meantime the claim of the University authorities after deeply analysing the problem is the assertion that the database is “unmodified”.
