
Strict curbs to continue till May 3, DC cancels passes

Srinagar, Apr 20: Fourteen people today tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir taking the tally of Corona persons to 313 in the Valley while the J&K’s tally surges to 368.
Out of 14 positive cases today, nine such reports were received from SKIMS COVID-19 testing laboratory and 5 from Government Medical College Srinagar.

Out of the nine people who tested positive at SKIMS Corona Laboratory, seven were from Bandipora and include six members of a family. They are three brothers aged, 32, 35 and 37 years besides wife and 11 year old daughter of another brother and wife of one of the COVID-19 positive brothers from Gund Jahangir in Bandipora. The other positive case from the area is wife of an Islamic preacher.
Two other cases at SKIMS which tested positive were from Muqam-e-Shahwali area of Kupwara. They include 24-year-old wife of a previous COVID-19 positive man and a 16-year-old youth who is contact of previous COVID-19 patient.
Those confirmed at Government Medical College Srinagar laboratory were all residents of Shangus Nowgam in Anantnag district. They were admitted in a Trauma hospital at Bijbehara. Except for a 19-year-old girl whose contact is not known, all others, all men-aged 55, 56, 65 and 70 are contacts of a COVID-19 positive man.
After today’s 14 cases, Bandipora has now 91 COVID-19 patients, highest in all districts, followed by 79 in Srinagar, 44 in Baramulla, 33 in Kupwara, 22 in Shopian, 14 in Ganderbal, 13 in Budgam, 8 in Anantnag, 6 in Kulgam and 3 in Pulwama.
Five people have died due to Corona in J&K.
Among the six persons discharged from SKIMS Soura, Medical Superintendent Dr Farooq Jan said four are from Bandipora and one each from Soibugh Budgam and Kupwara.
And the lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 33rd day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of Government orders issued to prevent spread of Coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
Acting tough against the violators of Government prohibitory orders, Handwara Police arrested 93 persons and seized 10 vehicles today.
Police said that 47 persons were arrested in Handwara and one vehicle was seized for
defying Government orders. Police Station Qalamabad arrested 9 persons for violating the prohibitory orders. Police Station Vilgam arrested 21 persons and seized 5 vehicles while Police Station Kralgund arrested 16 persons and seized 4 vehicles for violating the prohibitory orders.
And despite, district administration’s clear orders that the lockdown will continue till May 3, people came out this morning leading to traffic jams in parts of Srinagar city.
However, police immediately came into action and enforced the lockdown. District Magistrate Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary cancelled over 30 movement passes issued to officials and others.
Many vehicles were also seized as the DM toured the city. The strict action was taken for violating terms on which movement passes were issued to their owners.
The DC sought explanation from the Heads of Departments of these officials for misuse of passes issued to their staff members.
The DM has issued strict warnings against violations of restrictions as ordered in the district. He has directed for strict implementation and adherence to all restrictions ordered until May 3. He said strict action under law will be taken against whoever is found to be violating the orders.
The DM also visited areas notified as COVID-19 containment zones and inspected response mechanism set up there. He sought a detailed brief from concerned nodal officers about surveillance activities going on in these areas and provision of essential services and commodities to residents. He also interacted with zonal committees of these areas and local representatives who are members of the committees.
He also inspected the enforcement of restrictions as ordered in these areas. Speaking on the occasion, he thanked the people of these areas for adhering to guidelines as given to them and restrictions as ordered in their areas.
Dr Shahid directed the concerned Nodal Officers to ensure all households of their respective areas are provided with all kinds of routine needs at their doorsteps.
He also reiterated instructions to agencies to ensure strict enforcement restrictions on movement and public activities in all Red Zone areas. He directed to ensure that no one – except designated officials on duty there – is allowed to move in or out of these areas.
