Karvan-e-Aman bus leave to cross over to PoK

SRINAGAR: The Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) resumed on Monday, after remaining suspended last week as precautionary measure, official sources said.
The weekly bus left Bemina of Srinagar this morning, despite snowfall for Kaman post, the last Indian military post on this side of the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector.
The bus has since reached Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC), Uri, sources said this morning.
However, they said the number of passengers travelling in the bus will be known only in the afternoon, when more travellers will board it at Uri. The number of PoK guests will also be known in the evening, when the bus from across the border will reach the Kaman post.
The bus service was suspended on February 5 after a message was received from PoK that there will be no bus service because of national holiday in Pakistan, where people observe February 5 every year as ‘solidarity with Kashmir day’, they said.
The bus service, one of the major Confidence Building Measure (CBM) taken by India and Pakistan, was introduced on April 7, 2005, has helped thousands of families, divided in 1947 to meet each other.
However, the citizens of both the sides of LoC only are eligible to travel in the cross-LoC bus, provided their names are cleared by the intelligence agencies from both sides. (AGENCIES)
