SRINAGAR:Strongly condemning the assault on independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid in the Assembly, senior PDP leader and MP Tariq Hameed Karra today sought legal action against the accused BJP legislators for “their reprehensible action in the House”.
Karra also asked the party leadership to reconsider its ties with BJP in the state.
“Today’s highly deplorable action by BJP legislators in the Assembly has not only brought shame to the House and the PDP-BJP alliance, but the outrageous action of the BJP legislators is almost akin to the lynching of Mohammad Ikhlaque of Dadri in Uttar Pradesh,” Karra said in a statement here.
Terming the incident as “tragic”, he said, it has amply made clear that if the “communal and radical Hindutva elements” are not reigned in immediately, the time is not far when “we will see Dadri like appalling incidents being replicated even on the streets of the Muslim majority state like Jammu and Kashmir”.
“If immediate legal action is not taken against the accused BJP legislators, they will be emboldened to interfere in other religious matters of the State’s majority Muslim population,” the MP alleged.
He said the scare, insecurity and panic created among the minorities of the country by the “detestable” policies of the “radical” BJP-led NDA government can be gauged from the fact that having lost faith in India’s democratic institutions some of the Muslim political leaders have been forced to approach the UN to ensure the safety of the community amid the “culture of bigotry” being perpetuated and promoted by BJP and Sangh Parivar.
“Unfortunately, it will be too late, before BJP and the Sangh Parivar realise the immense damage being caused by their loath policies to the secular fabric of the country,” he said adding that a fresh wave of “alienation a simmering discontent is already visible in Kashmir”.
Urging PDP Patron and Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the party President Mehbooba Mufti to seriously ponder over the pros and cons of the party’s alliance with BJP, Karra said at a time when the minorities in the country are looking towards a united leadership to counter the radical Hindutva elements, PDP should not be seen cozying up to such “sadistic elements for the sake of power”.
