JAMMU, Sept 23: Veteran Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Dr Karan Singh has expressed disappointment that Jammu and Kashmir ignored and deeply hurt sentiments of the people of Jammu region by not declaring public holiday on the occasion of birth anniversary of his respected father, Maharaja Hari Singh despite widespread and long-standing public demand throughout the Jammu region.
In a statement, Dr Karan Singh said: “If Kashmir’s sentiments are respected by declaring Sheikh Abdullah’s birthday a public holiday, there is no reason why Jammu’s sentiments shouldn’t be equally respected’’.
“This doesn’t bode well for unity and welfare of the State,’’ he added.
