Two more deaths in Ladakh, 9 new cases

JAMMU, July 26: COVID positives tally in Jammu region remained above three digit mark with 105 persons testing positive for the virus today including two doctors, one of them a Block Medical Officer (BMO), two Kendriya Vidyalaya teachers, a Junior Engineer of GREF, four more employees of two private companies working for the Railways, a man and his daughter in Dream City Muthi and three of family in Gandhi Nagar, a Councilor holding post in Chenani Municipality, a Jammu and Kashmir Bank official and several para-military and police personnel while a 75-year-old woman from Karan Bagh Satwari in Jammu district died of COVID-19 in the Chest Diseases Hospital early this morning.

The Union Territory of Ladakh today reported two more Corona deaths, both in Kargil district, and nine new positive cases.
The Karan Bagh woman was hypertensive and diabetic but was admitted in the hospital after testing positive for the virus on July 24 and was symptomatic, Medical Superintendent Chest Diseases Hospital, Dr Rajeshwar Sharma said, adding the woman died at 12.30 am.
Her body was packed as per protocol and cremated this afternoon with limited family members allowed to attend last rites.
Nearly 30 persons from Karan Bagh and Gadigarh have so far been infected by the virus and three of them have died.
With today’s death, the Corona toll in Jammu region has risen to 23, the highest being 15 in Jammu district, two each in Rajouri and Doda districts and one each in Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Poonch.
Thirty seven persons including 27 travelers and 10 persons with no travel history tested positive for Coronavirus in Jammu district today. Nearly one and a half dozen of them were security personnel, majority from para-military forces including CRPF and BSF.
Three members of a family including couple and their child tested Corona positive from Last Morh Gandhi Nagar. A 52-year-old man and her-26-year-old daughter reported positive from Dream City. The man’s wife, a Health official, is already positive. A 24-year-old man and his three year-old daughter also tested positive in Gandhi Nagar.
Other positives of Jammu district include 48-year-old man from BC Road, 42-year-old from Narwal, a six-year-old female baby from Bathindi, who was contact of a positive person, 65-year-old woman from Toph Sherkhanian, 31-year-old youth from Sainik Colony and 40-year-old woman from Trikuta Nagar among others.
Lockdown remained in force for second day today in Jammu, Udhampur, Rajouri districts and four tehsils of Samba district. Parts of Doda and Reasi districts, mainly Containment Zones, also remained shut. Weekend lockdown in Jammu, Udhampur and Rajouri districts will end at 6 am tomorrow.
The Deputy Commissioner Office of Jammu has been declared as Containment Zone by District Magistrate Sushma Chauhan after four persons were tested positive last night.
Fourteen persons including two doctors and two teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya today tested positive for COVID-19 in Doda district.
Of two positive doctors, one was a Block Medical Officer (BMO) posted in Thathri and another a female Medical Officer from Roop Nagar Jammu posted in Thathri. Two female teachers of KV Arnora in Doda-hailing from Punjab and Jammu-also tested positive today.
Other positives of Doda district were a truck driver from Assar, eight travelers-six from Ghat and two from Gandoh and a person from Gandoh whose sample was taken during random testing.
Fifteen persons including four employees of two private companies working for the Railways reported Corona positive in Ramban. Of 15 positives, 13 were locals and two migrants, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Mohammad Fareed Bhat said.
Of them, two each were employees of two private companies working for the Railways. Rest of the positives of Ramban district hailed from Banihal, Gund Adal Koot, Maligam, Gund Teather, Khari Banihal, Kharpora, Buzala and Neera.
Fourteen persons today reported Corona positive in Poonch district including a Junior Engineer of GREF from Uttar Pradesh who had reported back to duty after availing leave, a Jammu and Kashmir Bank employee of Loran branch with no travel history, a BSF jawan of 183 battalion and a JKP constable, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said.
Other positives of Poonch district include two Biharis presently putting up at Suthra Bawli, three persons from Gohald Mendhar with travel history of Bihar and one person of Kulgam.
The Jammu and Kashmir Bank Branch Loran has been contained, Angral said.
Ten persons including five contacts of one positive person and two women today tested positive for COVID-19 in Samba district, SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said.
Five contacts of one positive person hailed from Ward No. 3 Bari Brahamana, Garh Mandi, Sandhi Road and Gurha Slathia. Three of them were under quarantine.
Other positives of Samba include a 31-year-old man from Ward No. 1 Ramgarh, 49-year-old from Mandal Purmandal, 45-year-old from Shah Balod Samba, a youth from Uttar Pradesh and an elderly person from Nonath Ghagwal, Pathak said.
In Udhampur district, six persons were today infected by the virus including a Councilor holding post in Chenani Municipal Committee, one each jawan of BSF and CRPF, a shopkeeper of Kud and two travelers.
Five persons including an ITBP jawan, two travelers, one employee of a private bank and a contact of Ward No. 14 positive person today reported COVID positive in Kathua district, Deputy Commissioner OP Bhagat said.
Two travelers each tested positive in Rajouri and Reasi districts while Kishtwar district didn’t report any Corona positive case today.
With today’s positives, Jammu region now has 3772 Corona positive cases and, of them, 1741 were active. As many as 2008 patients have recovered.
Forty one patients were today treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals in Jammu region including 10 in Reasi district, nine each in Ramban and Doda, four each in Jammu and Kathua, three in Kishtwar and two in Poonch district.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported two more deaths due to COVID-19 and nine new cases.
Both deaths today were reported from Kargil district taking UT’s toll to four and Kargil’s tally to three as one death (a former Union Minister) has been reported earlier in Leh district.
Of nine positive cases, seven were reported from Leh district.
The UT of Ladakh now has 1285 Corona cases—521 in Leh and 764 in Kargil and 218 active cases-176 in Leh and 42 in Kargil while 1063 patients have recovered including 344 in Leh and 719 in Kargil.
