Kansal reviews pace of progress under R&B sector

JAMMU, Mar 2: Commissioner Secretary, Roads and Buildings (R&B), Rohit Kansal today directed the authorities of R&B Department to speed up work on all ongoing projects besides ensuring timely submission of Utilization Certificates (UC) to GoI so that targets fixed for the year are achieved in full.
The Commissioner was chairing a review meeting of R&B Department of Jammu province in which all SEs and Executive Engineers besides Chief Engineer Alok Mengi and Director Planning R&B, Tariq Ahmed were present.
Mr. Kansal asked Superintendent Engineers to monitor pace of ongoing development works on regular basis. He also directed Executive Engineers to ensure proper maintenance of National Highway in their respective jurisdictions.
Commissioner Secretary directed for introduction of 2 new pilot projects which include usage of coble stone and plastic waste on specific road patches in Jammu Division.
While reviewing the sector wise progress of the department, the Commissioner Secretary was informed that under macadamization of cities and towns programme several road schemes of  Rs. 106. 42 crore have been taken in hand besides macadamization of roads leading to tourist destination costing  Rs.32.34 crore. The meeting was informed that 660 Km road length has been macadamized so far in the division so far.
The meeting was informed that under reconstruction of damaged bridges under Prime Minister’s package, Rs. 93.05 crore are being incurred on reconstruction of 51 bridges in Jammu division which include 19 in Poonch,13 in Jammu, 10 in Rajouri, 4 in Udhampur and one each in Samba, Reasi and Kishtwar districts. Of this, Rs. 78.35 crore stands expended while 20 bridges have been reconstructed during the year.
Under Special Bridge Programme, 289 bridges costing Rs. 452.11 crore have been taken up in the division against which 134 bridges have been completed so far.
Reviewing the NABARD sector, it was given out that 572 schemes, costing Rs. 1526.74 crore, are under execution, out of which 222 schemes stands completed costing Rs.1262.68 Crore up to January this year.
The meeting also discussed other issues relating to the better execution of the development works which include road safety measures and other departmental issues.
Addressing the meeting, the Commissioner  Secretary stressed upon the engineers to desist from making any kind of cost over run and ensure that all projects taken in hand are completed within the target time. He also directed concerned engineers to identify black spots/accident prone areas on highways and make a time bound plan to address these issues.
