Kansal inaugurates updated UG/PG music block in GCW Parade

JAMMU, June 3: In order to give a boost to Music as a subject, an updated UG/PG music block was inaugurated today in Govt College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu.
Rohit Kansal, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, inaugurated the updated block in the presence of Rakesh Badyal, Special Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K and others.
The updated block houses state of the art recording and editing studio, a spacious practice hall, a skill lab, a research centre and classrooms. The facility shall be used by the students and faculty of the college as well as the faculty of spoke colleges since the music department of GCW Parade Ground also serves as the hub for the research in music.
Rohit Kansal, in his address, expressed that music is the best medium to transform emotions, lessen stress and bring about positivity and peace in our lives. He evoked the contribution of prominent musicians of J&K in enriching the music of the nation and the world. He further opined that the facility shall be of immense use to the students and faculty alike and that good results can now be expected of GCW Parade Ground in terms of novel research publications and favorable placement of students.
Earlier, Dr S P Sarswat, Principal of the college, explained the proposed action plan for the Music Department vis-à-vis research and academics. He hoped that the Higher Education Department shall continue to support the institution for the benefit of the students.
Dr Anupama Sharma, Head of the Department of Music, presented a detailed overview of the course curriculum, skill courses, and extension activities being undertaken by the department. She also briefed about the proposed research activities of the department that is serving as the research hub in music for Jammu Division colleges. She hoped that with the availability of said facilities, a favorable outcome shall be obvious in the times to come.
Senior faculty members and non-teaching staff of the college attended the said event. Dr Alpana Vohra, Associate Professor in Zoology, anchored the proceedings while Prof Shayat K Dhar, Coordinator IQAC, presented a formal vote of thanks.
