JAMMU, Jan 3: A protest demonstration by Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) was held here today at High Court Road, Janipur against the State Government demanding totally free of cost drinking water.
Addressing the activists, JWAM president, Sunil Dimple gave a call to people not to deposit water tarrif to the concerned department till final decision is taken by the Government on water tariff.
Earlier JWAM activists followed by local populace staged dharna and blocked High Court Road (Janipur) for about an hour. They raised slogans against the Government and PHE Ministry for charging people on water supply.
The protestors demanded that water should be provided “totally free of cost” to the people of the State and there should be “no charges and no rent” on water, as the State has rich resources of water.
Dimple said that Omar Abdullah Government should learn a lesson from the Delhi Government and remove all bottlenecks in Chenab Water Supply Project, which has been put in the cold storage, with the excuse of ADB bank formalities, to ensure proper water supply in Jammu City.
“Now the people have decided and declared that they will not pay the water rent to the Government unless it takes appropriate decision”, Dimple said.
