JAMMU, Mar 26: Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) today held a protest against Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and traffic police for harassing the innocent traders on the name of traffic norms.
Scores of traders and activists of JWAM under the leadership of JWAM president, Sunil Dimple assembled at New Plot on Janipur road and raised slogans against JMC and traffic police.
The protesting traders said that damaging their business establishments, sign boards and seizing goods worth lakhs of rupees by the JMC on the name of traffic reforms will not work unless the basic causes of the traffic are understood and flyovers, ring roads, circular roads, parking spots are constructed. Traders raised slogans against the JMC, Deputy CM, sitting MLA and the BJP-PDP Government, and demanded their resignation for doing nothing to solve the traffic problem in Jammu city.
Addressing the protesters, Sunil Dimple said the JMC demolition drives are the murder of democracy. He threatened of closure of all the shops and markets if the JMC further harasses the traders. “In future if the JMC damages the sign boards and harasses the traders, they will not remain silent and there could be direct conflict between traders and JMC officials”, he added.
He said the innocent poor traders and daily bread earners are dying of starvation due to recent actions of JMC, which has not constructed any municipal markets for the small vendors or rehriwalas, and giving them inhumane behavior.
Dimple said the JMC has failed to perform its duty of cleanliness, sanitation, beautification of Jammu and is working only to snatch the livelihood of the daily bread earners. He held Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and the sitting MLA of the constituency, Sat Pal Sharma, responsible for the huge traffic problem, saying they did not bother to solve the traffic problems by taking up matter at the highest level.
