JAMMU, Sept 19: The General Body Meeting of Jammu University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) was held here yesterday to deliberate upon the various long pending issues pertaining to the teaching fraternity of the university.
After thorough discussions many resolutions were passed by the house unanimously including the need of enhancement of the age of superannuation of teachers to 65 years. The house directed the office bearers to take up this issue in the higher decision making bodies of the university.
JUTA members laid stress on the payment of gratuity and other retirement benefits to the retiring teachers on their last working day, fixation of the seniority as per UGC norms, early and immediate implementation of decisions approved by the different university bodies, immediate fixation of salaries of the teachers placed in different grades, protection of salaries of teachers who have joined the university from other departments/institutions, evolving the policy on appointment, salary and other service conditions of contractual faculty members of the university, strict adherence of one person one post along with fixed tenure and non dilution of senior positions by appointing persons not fulfilling the required qualifications and strict adherence of seniority.
The house also raised great concern about poor working conditions and stressed that the authorities be pressed upon to immediately improve the working conditions to provide conducive atmosphere for teaching and research as well as immediate renovation of the residential quarters.
Earlier, Prof J P Singh Joorel, president JUTA, presented detailed report on the various issues concerning the University teachers.
The proceedings were carried out by Dr Rakesh Vaid, general secretary JUTA whereas formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr Vijay Saigal, joint secretary, JUTA.
The meeting was attended by more than 150 members including Dr Kavita Suri, Dr Vivek Sharma, Prof Neelam Saraf, Prof N K Tripathi, Prof D S Jamwal, Prof V D Singh, Prof Rahul Gupta, Prof Renu Nanda, Prof Mubarak Singh, Prof G M Bhat, Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Prof Anju Bhasin, Er Anik Gupta beside other JUTA members.
