
Tantray, Meenia, Vinod Kumar get honours
JAMMU, Apr 23: Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Justice Arun Palli today presented the Prof R.K. Chhibber Memorial Trust-Press Club of Jammu Journalism Awards to TV Bharat Senior Correspondent Amir Tantray, Dainik Jagran Deputy Chief Reporter/Bureau Chief Ajay Meenia and Gulistan News’ Consultant Editor Vinod Kumar.
Each awardee received a cheque for Rs 25,000 and a memento.
The awards were presented at a function organised by the Prof. R.K. Chhibber Memorial Trust and the Press Club of Jammu here today.
Chief Justice Arun Palli congratulated the winners. He also applauded the Prof RK Chhibber Memorial Trust and Press Club of Jammu for recognising the hard work of the journalists and for establishing the awards.
Press Club of Jammu president Sanjeev Pargal welcomed the Chief Justice and Trust office bearers and members to the Club.
In his interaction with the Chief Justice, Pargal described as “bold and unprecedented” the decision taken by Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Collegium under the leadership of Justice Arun Palli, for filling up 11 vacancies in the Court, by giving representation to all regions besides women.

“The decision will lead to filling up of the vacancies and reduce pendency of cases in the High Court,” Pargal said.
He presented life-time honorary membership of the Press Club of Jammu to the Chief Justice.
Pargal also lauded Chhibber Memorial Trust’s Managing Trustee Sushil Chhibber and Senior Journalist Maneesh Chhibber for continuing their association with the Press Club of Jammu and presenting third edition of the awards today. He expressed confidence that the process will be carried forward by both the Trust as well as the PCJ.
Pargal, who was first recipient of the award, congratulated the three awardees.
Press Club Secretary General Dinesh Manhotra presented welcome address and explained the Club’s association with the Trust for past one decade.
In her address, Sushil Chhibber, Managing Trustee of Prof R.K. Chhibber Memorial Trust said free media is the life-blood of democracy. Just like educationists, which her late husband was, journalists are expected to keep asking questions, she said.
Advocate Ved Bhushan Gupta, Trustee of the Prof R.K. Chhibber Memorial Trust, said the best tribute to Prof Chhibber would be to do our respective jobs with honesty and sincerity.
In his address, Maneesh Chhibber said that Chief Justice Arun Palli was a leading lawyer in Punjab and Haryana High Court before his elevation as a Judge.
“In Chief Justice Palli, the two Union Territories have a fine legal mind and a genteel person as head of the legal institution. One keeps hearing about all the good things that are happening under his leadership,” he added.
Advocate Anshuja Sharma-Tak was the master of the ceremony.
