Justice Imtiyaz’s book on Muslim Personal Law released

SRINAGAR, May 29: A book on Muslim Personal Law written by Justice (Retd) Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain presently Member State Accountability Commission was released here today.
The book contains in depth study of the Muslim Law as applicable in Jammu and Kashmir with special reference to the Shariat Act 2007. It also contains a detailed account of the customs which are prevalent in the State but which have now lost a legal character after the enactment of Shariat Act.
The book contains references from authentic classic works on Muslim Jurisprudence and is supported by the case law of the Supreme Court and the High Court of the State. The book is revised edition of the author’s book on “Muslim Law and Customs” published in the year 1989 which contained a foreword by Justice Hidayatullah, former Vice-President and the Chief Justice of India.
The revised edition contains an introduction by Prof Wermer Menski, an authority on Muslim Law, who is presently heading the prestigious SOAS, University of London.
Justice Imitiyaz Hussain is prolific writer, who has written a number of books on Service Law, Land Laws in J&K and other important subjects. He is presently working on the political history of Kashmir from 1846-1946.
