JAMMU, Nov 18: Former Ministers and Ghulam Nabi Azad- led DPAP’s senior leaders, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Abdul Majid Wani; ex-MLC Subhash Gupta and senior DPAP leader from Udhampur, Brij Mohan Sharma are joining Congress Party tomorrow.
These leaders will join the Congress Party in presence of All India Congress Committee general secretary and In-charge party affairs in J&K and Ladakh, Dr Sayeed Naseer Hussain, AICC general Secretary and CLP Leader GA Mir, JKPCC chief Tariq Hameed Karra, newly appointed AICC secretary Pargat Singh, besides, AICC Mahila Wing president, Alka Lamba and IYC chief- Uday Bhanu Chib, during a grand function at Jammu tomorrow.
Party sources said that it will be the home coming of these leaders as they had resigned from the party after the resignation of former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad few years ago. They joined DPAP, new party flouted by Azad.
Several other loyalists of Azad- former Dy CM Tara Chand, former JKPCC chief Peerzada Mohd Syeed, former Ministers- Ghulam Mohd Saroori, Taj Mohiuddin etc had also resigned from the Cong Party, but they also returned to Congress fold after some time.
Sources further said that JKPCC has organized a grand function in connection with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi at JK Resort, near Marble Market in Jammu at 12 noon tomorrow (Wednesday/Nov 19). Many party leaders from the JKPCC and heads of frontal organizations will be attending this function.

Highly placed Congress sources said that entry of these leaders, besides G M Saroori, Taj Mohiuddin, and Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, who were interested to join Party before Assembly elections in J&K, was blocked with the ‘alleged sabotage’ by a few senior party leaders in J&K. Insiders said that ‘vested interests’ of those leaders including a few from Valley, with the hope to get some Ministry after winning polls, tried their best to block their entry and poisoned the ears of Rahul Gandhi against them. But their ‘own dreams’ were shattered later with the decision of the party high command ‘not to join Ministry with NC in J&K’.
Now, senior party leadership realized that had these leaders been allowed to join before Assembly polls, Cong would have won at least 3-4 more seats from Jammu region instead of single seat of Rajouri.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, a two- time Minister from Katra Mata Vaishnodevi in district Reasi, Abdul Majid Wani also two- time minister from Doda and former MLC Subhash Gupta from Hiranagar in district Kathua are considered as strong contenders in their respective areas. Gupta remained DDC president for Kathua for long. With the joining of Brij Mohan Sharma, the party considers that Congress will emerge stronger in district Udhampur.
