Judicial Academy organises special training prog for young lawyers

Jammu, Apr 11: Jammu & Kashmir State Judicial Academy in its endeavour to strengthen the Judicial Institution and impart necessary skills to all stake holders of the Justice Delivery system, organized one day special training programme for young lawyers of Jammu province on Professional Ethics in the State Judicial Academy.
The programme was organised under the guidance and patronage of Chief Patron of State Judicial Academy, Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar, Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and governing body of the State Judicial Academy (Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar, Chairman and Justice Janak Raj Kotwal, Member), Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy.
Proceedings were conducted by Abdul Rashid Malik, Director, State Judicial Academy. In his introductory remarks, Director, State Judicial Academy said that by organizing such type of training programmes on varied subjects of importance, Academy provides platform to all the stake holders of justice delivery system to ponder upon crucial issues and exchange valuable knowledge and information.
In his address on Professional Ethics, Mr. Malik emphasised the fact that the legal profession plays an important role in the Administration of Justice as the lawyers are considered the centre of the administration of justice. The fundamental aim of legal ethics is to maintain the honour and dignity of the legal profession and to secure a spirit of friendly co-operation between the Bench and the Bar in the promotion of highest standards of justice. He informed the young lawyers about their duty to the court, client, opponent, colleagues and the society.
He explained the term ‘misconduct’ in light of the decided case laws and the judgments of Supreme Court of India. While concluding, he remarked that professional ethics are duties to be followed by the advocate as these are the morals and basic courtesy which every person in this profession should know for the dignity of the profession. He referred to the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as lawyers in strengthening the rule of law, social justice and access to justice for all.
There was lively interactive session with the young lawyers and misconception and confusions about the profession were cleared by the Director.
