JAMMU, Nov 20: A special number on Manuscripts of Tasalsul, half yearly Research journal of the Department of Urdu, was today released by the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Prof R D Sharma.
Prof Qudoos Javed, former HoD Urdu Kashmir University, presided over the function while Director National Council for Promotion of Urdu language, Ministry of HRD Prof Khawaja Ekram graced the occasion as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof R D Sharma said that manuscripts are our treasures through which we can know about the old civilization of India. This number would definitely help the Research Scholars who are working on manuscripts, he said and underlined the consistent contributions of NCPUL in promotion of Urdu.
Prof  Qudoos Javeed, in his presidential address, informed that a number of manuscripts are still hidden and research should be conducted to bring them in the lime light. He called India a land of manuscripts and  threw light on some of the important manuscripts which are lying in different libraries of Jammu and Kashmir. Regarding the special number of Tasalsul on Manuscripts, Prof Qudoos Javeed hoped that this number would provide the information to the budding scholars how to preserve manuscripts and also their importance.
Prof  Khawaja Ekram congratulated Prof  Shohab Inayat Malik for compiling the special number.
Earlier in his welcome address Editor-in-Chief of Tasalsul Prof  Shohab Inayat Malik informed that this was  the fifth special number of Tasalsul. Earlier Tasalsul has brought out special number on “Urdu in 21st Century”, “Sir-Sayeed Ahmed Khan Number”, “Rasa Javedani Number”  and ” Mantoo Number”. He further informed that a proposal has been sent to National Mission for Manuscripts for organizing 40- day workshop for research scholars who are interested in Manuscripts.
Prof  Sukhchain Singh, HoD Urdu in JU,  presented a vote of thanks while the proceeding of the program was conducted by Dr  Mohd Reyaz Ahmed.
