JAMMU, Jan 30: Students and scholars of University of Jammu (JU) here today staged a protest demonstration against State Administrative Council’s (SAC) decision this month regarding various teaching posts.
The protesters took out a rally from University of Jammu to the civil secretariat which was stopped mid-way by the police.
The protesters were demanding that the SAC decision should be withdrawn and the recruitment of ReT teachers should be allowed to run normally as was being done earlier.
It is pertinent to mention here that recently the SAC took decisions regarding teaching posts in the universities and colleges of Jammu.
The decision was aimed at adjusting teachers engaged under Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) scheme against the advertised posts of teachers. According to the order, ReTs and regularized ReTs will be adjusted against these posts and their posts (ReTs and regularized ReTs) will only be filled in case of their death.
Apart from this, the SAC had also called for the conversion of 4,500 non-teaching posts into teaching posts to accommodate regularized ReTs.
A handout of the protesters informed that the affected students also met the Chief Secretary and put forward their issues.
Meanwhile, former Minister Yogesh Sawhney has extended support to the protesting students.
