JU punishes teacher accused of sexual harassment

JAMMU, Sept 1: Accepting recommendation of the Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH), the Jammu University has imposed life-long ban on  holding any administrative position in the university by  Assistant Professor Shubhnandan Singh Jamwal, who has been found guilty of sexual harassment of a student.
Decision in the regard was taken in a meeting of CASH Members, under the chairmanship of JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma, here yesterday and the quantum of punishment was conveyed to the guilty teachers today, sources told the Excelsior.
The CASH  had submitted its report to Vice Chancellor last week  recommending “stringent and exemplary action” against the accused Assistant Professor.
It may be recalled that a student of Master in Computer Application (MCA), JU, had submitted a complaint of sexual harassment to the Vice Chancellor’s office on May 17,  2017.  She had alleged that she was  sexually harassed by her teacher, Shubhnandan Jamwal. To substantiate her allegations, she had provided an  audio recording of her conversation with the accused.
