JAMMU, Feb 24: Jammu University organized a curtain raiser event of National Science Day, wherein Dr D Srinivasa Reddy, Director CSIR IIIM, Jammu was the chief guest and key speaker.
Organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, theme of the event was “Future of STI: Impacts on Education, Skills, and Work”.
Citing glaring examples in the context of crop protection, medicinal chemistry, insect repellents and drug development, Dr Reddy explained how breakthrough research and experimentation is silently resolving societal issues. He asserted that it is also a matter of pride that in doing a synthesis of the molecules of natural resources, the traditional knowledge of Ayurveda and Indian scriptures are also taken into consideration.
JU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Manoj K Dhar, in his presidential address, proposed collaborative efforts by the University of Jammu and CSIR IIIM Jammu which will reap a great benefit for the students. Speaking about the importance of Science and Technology and relevance of celebrating National Science Day, he informed that in a week-long celebration, a series of events such as Poster Making, Debate, Quiz etc. would be organized at the University of Jammu which would culminate with the valedictory address on 28th of February at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium by Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and MoS in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof Rajni Kant, Dean of Sciences, informed in detail various contours associated with the celebration of National Science Day. He said that during the past two years under the leadership of Prof Manoj Dhar, various landmark decisions were taken, especially in the field of Science to promote research and Innovations on the Campus.
Prof Kamal K Kapoor, HoD Chemistry; Prof Yash Pal Sharma, former HoD, Botany and Prof Prakash C Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, were also present on the dais.

Among others, Prof. Roopma Gandotra, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences; Prof Anupama Vohra, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee; Prof B K Bajaj, Associate Dean, SW; Prof Vinay Chauhan, OSD to VC, Deans, Heads of the Departments, faculty members, students, and scholars of JU were also present on the occasion.
