JU opens admissions for all in 6th Semester after massive protests by students

JAMMU, Jan 23: Following registration of strong protest by the aggrieved students in various colleges of Jammu, Kathua, Billawar, Udhampur, Reasi, Sunderbani, etc, Jammu University agreed for admission in 6th semester to all the students, who appeared in 5th semester, irrespective of their backlog.
In Jammu City, students of various colleges assembled at their respective campuses and marched towards the university where they held dharna outside main gate of the university.
Addressing agitating students , ABVP SWC Member and Jammu Mahanagar Joint Secretary Sonali Vaid alleged that Jammu University had adopted dictatorial attitude regarding the admission process of 6th semester.
Due to no response from university administration for long time, students turned aggressive and they forcefully entered into the university after climbing the gate. Even as Police used force and resorted to mild lathicharge, students made their entry into the university campus. A few students, including ABVP Jammu Mahanagar Joint Secretary Parteek Sharma, sustained injuries in the Police action.
Seeing the uncontrolled mob of agitating students in the university campus, Dean Academic Affairs ordered revocation of the earlier notification and issued a new notification directing that all the students will be promoted to semester 6th who have given exams of semester 5th.
At Women College Gandhi Nagar, protest was led by ABVP SWC Member and Mahanagar Joint Secretary Sonali Vaid while in MAM College, the protest was led by ABVP Jammu Mahanagar Joint Secretary Parteek Sharma, College president Prabhu Dayal and College Secretary Rajit Rajpur. In GGM Science College, the protest was led by ABVP Mahanagar Office Secretary Akshay Sharma and ABVP Activist Akshay Parihar.
