JU Law School organizes National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition

JAMMU, Oct 6: The Law School, University of Jammu, in collaboration with Surana and Surana International Attorneys, organised National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition, 2019 (India North Rounds), in which NLU Jodhpur emerged as winner while Campus Law Centre-1 stood as the runners up.
Around sixteen teams from leading law institutions across the country, which participated in this competition, included NLU Jodhpur; Amity Law School, Noida; Lloyd Law College, Noida; TNDALU Chennai; Dr Ambedkar Law College, Pudupakkam; School of Law , UPES , Dehradun; Symbiosis Law School, Noida; Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University Lucknow; JEMTEC School of Law, Greater Noida; Campus Law Centre University of Delhi; Dogra Law College, Jammu; Chandigarh University, Law Centre -I; Faculty of Law , University of Delhi; New Law College, BV(DU), Pune; School of Excellence in Law, TNDALU, Chennai and KC Law College Jammu.
The competition showcased mock proceedings of a criminal trial. The competition was divided into four rounds i.e. Preliminary Rounds, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals. More than hundred students of the Law School, University of Jammu were given training in order to take part as witnesses in the competition. The preliminary rounds and the Semi-final rounds were adjudged by the Judges and practicing advocate of J&K High Court, namely Judge, Salauddin Ahmed, former District and Sessions Judge B L Saraf, Adv D S Chouhan, Adv Aditya Gupta, Adv Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed, Adv Nitin Parihar, Adv Deepika Mahajan, Adv Abhinav Jamwal, Adv Kuljeet Pathania, Adv Irfan Khan, Adv Arjun Singh, Adv Deepali Sharma, Adv Mohit Gupta, Adv Pardeep Majotra, Adv Depesh Singh, Adv Abhishek Wazir, Adv A P Singh, Adv Zulkar Nain Sheikh, Adv Minoo Sharma, Adv Dharmindra Singh and Adv Rohit Bhagat.
The final rounds were adjudged by Justice J P Singh, former Judge, J&K High Court and Prof S K Sharma former, HoD Law and Ex State Information Commissioner, J&K.
J P Singh also addressed the students and emphasised that there is a dire need to restructure law course curriculum in such a fashion that students spent at least six months’ time exclusively devoted to enhancing advocacy skills.
Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor JU and Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Director of The Law School, also spoke on the occasion. Dr Bindu Sangra, Faculty In charge Moot Court, delivered the vote of thanks.
