JAMMU, Apr 16: The University of Jammu is going to launch 100-day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), which will be formally inaugurated tomorrow by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai, through a pledge ceremony at the University campus.
The programme is being organised in alignment with the vision of the Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor, Manoj Sinha, under whose leadership the 100-day campaign was launched across Jammu & Kashmir on April 11, 2026.
The announcement in this regard was made during a press conference, addressed by Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies; Prof J P Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof Prakash C Anthal, Dean Students Welfare; and Dr Neeraj Sharma, Registrar.
The University has prepared a comprehensive 100-day action plan (April–June 2026), which includes a wide range of activities involving Teaching Departments, clubs, NSS/NCC units, and offsite campuses. Ongoing April month will focus on awareness and mobilisation through pledge ceremonies, wellness programmes, marathons, debates, and police-community interactions. Month of May will emphasise community outreach, including women-led initiatives, employee awareness programmes, and outreach activities in surrounding areas. June will focus on consolidation and sustainability, including anti-drug themed events, teacher training programmes, plantation drives, and integration of awareness into academic processes.
Prof. Neelu Rohmetra said that the University remains committed to creating a supportive environment through sustained awareness, mentorship, and counselling. She further stressed that addiction cannot be seen as a response to life’s challenges, and that continuous engagement with students is essential to guide them towards positive and constructive choices.
Prof J P Singh Joorel observed that youth, particularly those living away from home, are more vulnerable to substance abuse due to changing social environments. He underlined the need for a coordinated approach involving Government enforcement, societal participation, and institutional responsibility.
Prof Prakash C Anthal emphasised that the growing menace of drug abuse must be addressed with urgency and collective responsibility, as it deeply affects families, society, and the future of youth.
Dr Neeraj Sharma reiterated the University’s commitment to ensuring effective administrative coordination for the successful implementation of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan across its various departments and campuses.
