JAMMU, Jan 17: Seventh Innovation in Scientific Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Internship camp began today at Brig Rajinder Singh auditorium in Jammu University.
Sponsored by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, the basic objective of the INSPIRE camp is to communicate the excitement of creative pursuits of science and attract talent to the study of science at an early stage and build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening science and technology system in R and D base.
Around 265 students from 24 schools in Jammu province are participating in this five-day camp, which was inaugurated this morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof T P Singh, Member Scientific Advisory Committee to Chief Minister, J&K and distinguished Research Professor, AIIMS, Delhi, who was chief guest on this occasion, expressed his pleasure to be part of INSPIRE.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar said that the top performers in class 10th board examination, who are presently pursuing science in the 11th, will be given exposure to the invited fellows through lectures and interactive sessions.
Earlier Prof G M Bhat, Head, Dept of Geology, in his welcome address, underlined the objective of INSPIRE.
Prof PK Srivastava, Coordinator, INSPIRE, gave synoptic details of the programme and also underlined the need to pursue Science as a Career. He further informed that the Inter School Science quiz competition will also be held on January 18 as part of this Camp and students shall be benefited by the lecture by eminent Scientist like Prof N Sathya Murti, Director, IISER, Mohali, Prof Shalabh, IIT, Kanpur, Prof Avinash Khare, DU, Prof V Sri Nivas, TIFR, Mumbai and Prof A S Brar, Vice-Chancellor, GNDU, Amritsar and others.
