LEH, May 3: The Ladakh Cultural Forum celebrated its 47th Foundation Day here today with the Member of Parliament for UT Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal (JTN), as the Chief Guest.
The event was held at the Lotsava Auditorium, Ladakh Academy of Arts Culture and Languages (LAACL) in Leh.
During the event, MP Ladakh JTN highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting the Bhoti script and language, which is the foundation of Ladakh’s rich culture and tradition.
He praised the efforts to promote the Bhoti language, which is now a recognized subject in CBSE with a concurred syllabus, allowing the provision of Bhoti teaching and learning in all schools affiliated with CBSE.
To further promote the Bhoti language, LAHDC Leh formed an expert committee to prepare Bhoti textbooks for Classes 1st to 8th, with textbooks for Secondary and Higher Secondary classes in progress.
Emphasis is placed on the creation of Bhoti lecturer posts, and workshops between language experts and Bhoti research scholars and the media fraternity to enable the correct propagation and dissemination of the Bhoti language.
MP Ladakh also urged LAACL Leh to explore the feasibility of conducting Bhoti language diploma courses and other courses, such as traditional astrology and mask dance ‘Chhams,’ in collaboration with All Ladakh Gompa Association.
The executive councillor, Stanzin Chosphel, assured to provide financial support and assistance to LCF from Hill Council.
Other speakers shared their views on the role and significance of LCF, Rignas Chu, and the need for the conservation and promotion of the Bhoti language, the foundation of Ladakhi culture and heritage. The event also saw the launch of two books, one dealing with Ladakh and the other with poetry.
