LEH, Dec 24: The Minister for Urban Development and Local Bodies J&K Nawang Rigzin Jora and CEC, LAHDC, Leh, Rigzin Spalbar today laid the foundation stone of major projects of Leh town under UIDSSMT (JNNURM) at Leh Bazar.
The four major projects at total cost of Rs 217.35 crore under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM)  includes augmentation & re-organization of Leh water supply scheme (Rs  70.48 crore), sewerage system in Leh (Rs  59.39 crore), solid waste management Leh (Rs 10.94 crore) and improvement of roads in Leh ( Rs 76.53 crore).
Addressing the people, Jora said that this prestigious project of Leh has been designed targeting 30 years need of Leh town having facilities to provide house to house water connection, lying of 112 Km sewer network, improvement of 105 km road network, beautification of Leh Bazar and solid waste management system in Leh and with the completion of these projects, the standard of living, hygienic conditions, water connection and road network of Leh town will improve in a big way.
Terming the day as a historic one for Leh town, CEC Rigzin Spalbar   said that the approval of such an amount of fund for small town like Leh is really a big thing and credited Rigzin Jora for bringing this most needed and prestigious project for Leh town.
To make this project successful in all respects, LAHDC Leh has already engaged WAPCOS Ltd, he added and urged upon the citizens of Leh town to cooperate the Council while executing the projects.
Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Leh, Simrandeep Singh informed that the works on these four projects will start in the months of Feb and March 2014 and Rs 9 crore have already been expended for procurement of materials.
