JAMMU, Dec 20: In order to facelift the temple city for attracting pilgrim tourists visiting Mata Vashino Devi and other holy shrines, the Tourism Department has initiated development and beautification of Tawi river front along the upcoming artificial lake, involving a cost of Rs 3.98 crore. The development work on this prestigious project is in full swing and is expected to be completed by end of next financial year.
The Tourism and Culture Minister, Nawang Rigzin Jora, today visited the project site and inspected the pace of progress on various components of the project.
The Minister is personally monitoring the pace on the project by conducting frequent inspections and ensure completion of various works in a stipulated time frame.
During the inspection at the project site, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of progress on the project and impressed upon the executing agency to maintain the same spirit to ensure time bound completion of all other ongoing tourism projects across the region, by taking care of quality and aesthetic aspects required to be added to tourism infrastructure to make it more attractive for the visiting tourists.
Mr Jora said that the Government endeavors to fully explore the varied tourism potential of Jammu region by developing scenic spots with a focused thrust on upgradation and creation of quality infrastructure. He said many tourism projects were also coming up in Jammu that would help to lure the pilgrims and other tourists to extend their holidays in the City of Temples. He said Sidra Golf Course, development of Peer Kho temple, beautification of Tawi front with other recreation facilities would act as new attractions for the tourists.
Giving details of Tawi project, the Minister said that besides development of Recreational Park with walk ways, view decks with shelter sheds, illumination of river front, parking lot, fencing on river and road sides and public conveniences were also being developed for the convenience of the tourists.
The Tourism Minister said that work on artificial lake downstream Tawi river was already taken up by Ministry of Irrigation. He said this multipurpose project also aims at adding beauty to the Tawi river front and includes development of recreational facilities and promotion of eco-tourism.
The Minister instructed the engineers to gear up men and machinery to ensure time bound completion of all components. He also called for maintaining close coordination among tourism, irrigation, revenue and other concerned departments for removing bottlenecks, if any, to ensure smooth execution of the works.
