KATRA, Dec 13: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Nawang Rigzin Jora, today visited Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji pilgrimage and emphasized the need for creation and expansion of civic amenities to meet the emerging requirements.
The Minister inspected the proposed site for new Bus Stand, and Railway Station, Banganga Road, Darshnideodi and Dhanoa, adjoining Katra. He asked the concerned authorities to undertake the construction of the new Bus Stand in a phased manner after settling all issues with regard to the land acquisition. He said that more than one crore Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims visit Katra every year and besides this town is getting rail connectivity shortly, as such, there is urgent need for creating infrastructure and putting in place facilities to adequately meet future requirements.
Referring to the construction of proposed dumping site, the Minister issued instructions to the Deputy Commissioner, Reasi CEO/EO Katra to get clearance of site from the Pollution Control Board so that the funding for execution of this project is arranged.
During his visit, the Minister was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Satish Nehru, District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Director Urban Local Bodies, Jammu, Arun Sharma and the officers of concerned departments.
Later, a deputation of Katra, including former Councilor’s of Katra Municipality, called on the Minister and presented to him development-oriented demands of the town.
