Joint Forum takes serious exception to Pak HC’s role

JAMMU, Aug 17: The Joint Forum of KP Organisations today took serious exception to the invitation by the Pakistan High Commission to the Kashmiri separatists to discuss the so called Kashmir issue.
In a joint statement issued by H.N.Jattu President AIKPC, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo President Panun Kashmir, D.N.Kissu Chairman ADKPUF, Virender Raina National spokesperson Joint Forum and Sardar Prem Singh President Displaced Sikh Forum they termed it a brazen violation of the diplomatic code of conduct.
The invitation to the separatists comes on the eve of the Foreign Secretary level talks to be held in Islamabad next week. The secret parleys in Delhi are obviously being held to fine tune the Kashmir offensive before the Secretary level talks in Islamabad. Joint Forum of KP organizations have opposed such meetings between the Pakistan High Commission and the separatists in the past on the ground that such meetings have been used to plan and strategize anti-India activities in Kashmir.
These meetings have also been used in the past to foster unity amongst the separatist groups and also to bolster their sagging morale.
The past Governments at the Centre allowed such hara-kiri to the peril of the nationalist forces in the State. Kashmiri Pandits and other minorities in J&K have been at the receiving end of such disastrous policies in the past. Kashmiri Pandits have faced genocide, ethnic cleansing and exodus in Kashmir and as such appeal to the Government not to allow such a free run to the separatists in Kashmir. The Western countries have issued travel advisories against traveling to Islamabad because of highly uncertain situation there holding of Secretary level talks is meaningless.
The incessant ceasefire violations have created a very serious situation for the people living on the border. The High Commissioner of Pakistan should have been called to explain instead he has the gumption to invite Kashmiri Separatists including the super hawkish Geelani to the Pak chancery at Delhi. At a time when Pakistan has become a pariah state and is imploding from within, it should not be allowed to use talks with India to gain credibility as has happened in the past. We sincerely hope and believe that the new Government at the centre would take a more realistic view of the situation and would not persist with the disastrous Pakistan policy of the previous dispensation.
