SRINAGAR, Aug 23: A joint delegation of the Voluntary Health Association of India, New Delhi, and J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association, Srinagar, called on N N Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today.
The delegation led by A M Mir, Executive Director, J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association, briefed the Governor about the activities of the national level and the J&K Association in regard to public health issues, particularly those aimed at spreading awareness about the highly injurious effects of smoking and consumption of other tobacco products. He gave details of the various initiatives taken by these Associations in this regard in the past and those planned for the coming months. The deputationists urged for enforcing all related laws for discouraging the consumption of Gutka, the smokeless tobacco, in the State.
The delegation also informed the Governor about the initiatives they had taken for rendering support to the people affected by earthquakes and other natural calamities in various parts of the country.
The Governor complimented the Voluntary Health Association of India and the J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association for doing a commendable job and assured them that he would address the Minister for Health regarding the help and support required to achieve the objectives of the Associations.
The delegation, led by Mir, comprised Bhavna Mukhophadyay, Executive Director, Voluntary Health Association of India, Sukriti Jain, Programme Officer, Voluntary Health Association of India and Ezabir Ali, Member, J&K Voluntary Health and Development Association.
