JAMMU, May 20: Anti Corruption Bureau today conducted joint surprise check of Chenani Hydel Project, Udhampur in connection with alleged large scale irregularities in various purchases made on exorbitant rates.
A joint team, comprising officers of Engineering Wing of ACB Jammu and officers of JKPDCL Jammu, deputed to Chenani Hydel Electric Power Project (District Udhampur), conducted spot inspection with regard to various works executed and records. The team also examined the various purchases made by the officers on exorbitant rates and the record pertaining to the complaint was seized.
The raid was conducted on the basis of a complaint received by Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu against the officers of Power Development Corporation Udhampur , including B S Jaggi (Executive Engineer, PDC Udhampur), Upinder Jit Singh (Director Finance), Gurdev Sodhi (AEE) and Rajni Gupta (CPAO), wherein it was alleged that a fraud worth Rs 25 lakh has been done in Generation Division Udhampur of PDC. Funds were released without doing any works on ground and purchasing of material on exorbitant rates, said the complaint.
There were also allegations that the then Director Finance had managed his posting for a long period in Power Development Corporation and remained instrumental in purchases on exorbitant rates. The joint surprise check was initiated to verify the allegations.
The allegations regarding irregularity in maintenance of 33 KV line are also under enquiry and team is investigating this aspect too, said a spokesperson of the ACB, adding that FIR shall be registered on verification of the allegations. Further investigations are going on.
