NEW DELHI : Jammu and Kashmir government has approved a plan for providing 3000 state government jobs to the Kashmiri migrants and constructing 6000 transit accommodations in the Valley, the Rajya Sabha was informed today. In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said, ”Thus far, state government jobs have been provided to 1,719 Kashmiri migrants and 505 transit accommodations have been constructed in the Kashmir valley.
”Earlier, the Jammu and Kashmir government was requested to identify suitable land in the Kashmir valley, where the Kashmir migrants could be rehabilitated.
” A variety of measures were undertaken over the years by the Government for rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants. Under the Prime Minister’s package 2004, 5242 two room tenements were constructed in Jammu (Purkhoo, Muthi, Nagrota and Jagti) and 200 flats at Sheikhpora in Budgam district (Kashmir valley) and they were allotted to the migrants.”
Giving details about the package announced for the migrants, Mr Ahir said a comprehensive package was announced by the government in 2008 for return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants, which provided for 3000 state government jobs, financial assistance for purchase/construction of house, construction of transit accommodations, continuation of cash relief to migrants, scholarship to students, assistance for self-employment, assistance to the agriculturists and waiver of interest on unpaid loan among others.
This package was being implemented by the J&K government, he informed. (AGENCIES)
