JMC taking various public welfare measures: Mayor

JAMMU, Nov 3: Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Rajinder Sharma said that taking a cue from the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s and Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha’s developmental initiative, the JMC is taking various public welfare measures.
Talking to reporters here, today along with Deputy Mayor, Baldev Singh Billawaria, Sharma said under the public welfare schemes launched by JMC the line officers will visit every ward of JMC along with respective corporators twice a week to ascertain people’s problems there and solve them on the spot.
He said this step has been taken to improve the work culture in JMC and settlement of people’s problems. Besides, the step has been taken to take democracy to grass root level and fulfill the dream of PM, Narendra Modi who has given the concept of local self Government during his Red Fort Speech, he added. Mayor said that all steps are being taken to reorientation of JMC’s work culture and improve the working system in civic body. He complimented the Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, corporators and staff for their cooperation in this initiative.
He said the line department officers of PHE, Power, Sanitation etc will visit all wards twice in the week under the leadership of corporators to have a complete liaison with people.
Mayor said that the working of JMC will be fully made transparent and all steps will be taken to empower corporation and corporators.
Making a big announcement the Mayor said that henceforth no charges will be taken from the people at public parking at Super Specialty Hospital and it will be free for the people.
Maintaining that sanitation is the first and foremost priority of JMC, Mayor said that the civic body will ensure total sanitation in the city.
Sharma said that he has urged authorities that elaborate measures be taken in this regard. He said to improve sanitation in the city the Safai Karamcharis will be allotted specified areas and the wearing of uniforms will be made mandatory for them. To cross check their working the Municipality officers will seek mobile numbers of four people from that area to ascertain whether proper cleanliness is being done in the area or not.
The Mayor said that there are 74 Sulabh Shauchalayas in Jammu city and their contractors will be given four days time to ensure cleanliness of these Shauchalayas. In case they fail to do the same in the stipulated time frame their contracts will be terminated and they will be blacklisted.
Sharma said his priority is to empower corporation and corporators and steps have been taken in this direction by him.
He said the Municipality has started to work in double shifts and this step has been taken to expedite the execution of development works in the city.
