JAMMU, July 9: As per the directions of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner, the team of Health Section of JMC including Sanitation Officers, Assistant Sanitation Officers, Sanitary Inspectors, Sanitary Supervisors and others conducted an intensive drive for checking the illegal use of Single Use Plastic (SUP) in all the three zones.
The inspecting team seized 17.5 kg SUP and 71 kg polythene and imposed a fine to the tune of Rs. 98,800 on violators.
The Health Officer JMC has appealed to the general public to cooperate in curbing illegal use of SUP which is a punitive offence under Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules 2016 read with J&K byelaws SWM 2019.
In a handout JMC stated that it hope to meet the challenge together with the general public to make environment sustainable and eco-friendly.
