JAMMU, Mar 8: Briefing about Swachh Survekshan, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Avny Lavasa today listed the activities being done in 2022 for this annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation.
“In order to increase the yearly ranking for the year 2022, JMC has initiated ground work on three steps, including use of hoardings, banners and social media to encourage door to door collection, segregation of dry waste and wet waste and pay sanitation user fee charges on time,” she said, while talking to media persons in presence of Chairman, Swachh Bharat Mission Standing Committee, Hardeep Singh Mankotia, Atul Kumar (Secretary) and Dr Sanjogita Soodan (Health Officer).
Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in villages, cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aimed to make India clean and free of open defecation by 2 October 2019. The first survey was undertaken in 2016 and covered 73 cities (53 cities with a population of over a million, and all state capitals); by 2020 the survey had grown to cover 4242 cities and was said to be the largest cleanliness survey in the world. The surveys are carried out by Quality Council of India.
In the year 2021, JMC attained Rank – 169 in yearly ranking showing a consecutive rise from 2020 (Rank – 224) and 2019 (Rank-329).
The JMC Commissioner also threw light on awareness campaigns and training programmes to educate the citizens with basic hygiene practices and informed that to excel in the field of solid waste management and Waste Segregation, Jammu Municipal Corporation has engaged 89 new segregated autos, 66 E-Rikshaws and 100 six bin garbage Tricycles.
