JAMMU, May 19: Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JK-UT) has urged the School Education Department to consider suitable curtailment in school timings because of the prevailing extreme heat wave conditions across the region.
The demands was raised during an emergency meeting of the Forum, held under the chairmanship of Chief Patron, Ganesh Khajuria. The meeting was attended by senior leadership of JKTF, including apex body members, provincial body members, district body members, and zonal body members.
Expressing concern over the prevailing extreme heat wave conditions across the Summer Zone schools of Jammu Province, the Forum urged the Minister for Education, Sakeena Masood Itoo, and the Commissioner Secretary, School Education Department, to consider suitable curtailment in school timings in the larger interest of students and teaching fraternity.
The members highlighted that many Government schools are facing a lack of adequate infrastructure facilities, including proper ventilation, cooling arrangements, and uninterrupted drinking water supply. The Forum further stated that a large number of students belong to economically weaker and downtrodden sections of society, making it extremely difficult for them to cope with the soaring temperatures during school hours.
