JAMMU, June 7: J&K Teacher’s Forum (JKTF) today criticized the Government for fixing 1:20 as teacher-pupil ratio in Government schools without taking into consideration the number of classes in schools which is totally injustice with the students.
In a meeting of the forum held today under the chairmanship of president, EJAC, Abdul Qayoom Wani, the speakers discussed the issue of rationalization of staff in schools. The speakers flayed the Government for playing with the career of the students in the name of rationalization of staff.
They said that a Middle School has at least nine classes barring nursery which require at least nine teachers, one Head Master and one Physical Education teacher, then how it is possible that a teacher could teach 8-10 classes (Periods) at one time. “So, rationalization in Primary, Middle, High and Higher Secondary schools should be made on the strength of classes and not on roll. If it is not done, it would be sheer injustice with the students and their career”, they added.
The speakers asserted that each school should have subject knowing teaching otherwise Urdu Teacher would not have to teach Maths in the schools.
While addressing the meeting, EJAC president said that teachers are well ware and well conscious of their duties and in odd times they delivered well and despite of non-payment of salaries they kept the candle of knowledge aglow.
He said that the disgrace of teachers in the name of rationalization won’t be tolerated at any cost. He said that they are not adverse to rationalization but rationalization should be made taking into account the number of classes otherwise it will prove counterproductive as the number of class teachers shall reduce which will affect the studies.
