Srinagar, Apr 25:  Teachers in the Kashmir region have called for a pen-down strike today in all the Government-run schools against the killing of a teacher during polling duty in Shopian on Thursday.
Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) provincial president Mohammad Afzal Bhat lashed out at the Government for using teachers as “bonded labours” during elections.
Bhat said the Government has failed to provide adequate security to the polling staff at the polling stations and on their return after performing their duty.
He said the forum expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
A teacher identified as Zia-ul-Haq, of Hurpora Shopian, who was on poll duty, was killed and five others, including two policemen and a CRPF trooper, were injured in an attack.
