J&K’s scientist to take over as DRDO Chief Controller

JAMMU, Mar 30: An illustrious son of the soil and eminent scientist Dr Sudershan Kumar Director, Centre for Fire, Explosive & Environment Safety (CFEES) will take over as Chief Controller (Production Coordination & Services Interaction) of DRDO from April 1 at DRDO Headquarters in New Delhi.
Son of a retired Army officer and hailing from Reasi Dr Sudershan Kumar is a proud state subject who has achieved this rare distinction of occupying the top post in DRDO.
Dr Kumar, alumnus of Jammu University initially completed his Higher Secondary School Education from M.L. Higher Secondary School Reasi, Graduation from Government Science College, Jammu. He completed his Post Graduation & PhD from Jammu University before joining country’s elite Defence Research organization, DRDO, in 1983.
During his illustrious career spanning over 30 years, Dr Kumar has held various positions in DRDO including Project Director for development of CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicle, Director of Materials at DRDO HQ Delhi, Director CFEES before his elevation as Chief Controller R&D (Production Coordination & Services Interaction).
He has headed various Indian delegations in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear radiation (CBRN) Defence at various countries and also received awards for his contribution in CBRN Defence at National and International levels.
Notably among these are:  Agni award for excellence in self-reliance in the year 2007, recognition in the form of shield by Govt. of Trinidad and Tobago in year 2009 for his contribution during Commonwealth Head of State meeting at Port of Spain, excellent leadership award from Amity University Noida in September 2013, Bharat Jyoti Award from India International Friendship Society in New Delhi in December 2013 towards his contribution in the area of Fire, Explosive and Environmental Safety.
